Highland Green supports education and literacy for underserved children

education

Our initial beneficiary, Creative Learning @ FPC, provides daily after school tutoring and helps with homework to improve the skills of students with working parents. The students, Grades K-5, come from the Stamford public schools. All students, especially the English-language learners, receive support to improve reading and math skills.
HOMEWORK HELP

Students are able to finish their homework every day without relying solely on their own translation abilities, or those of their parents.

INTEREST IN LEARNING

We have seen non-readers become interested book seekers and math begins to make sense.

VOLUNTEERS

The Creative Learning After School Program is comprised of volunteer tutors.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Since its inception in 2009, 75 percent of the students receive scholarship aid. The program relies on sponsors and donors to cover most expenses.

Donation Request

Support us this #GivingDay

Our goal this Giving Day is $10,000 to fund scholarships for our Family focused afterschool program.  With your help, we can continue to help Stamford families develop and nurture their children’s life skills.

Our mission is to provide an active and developmentally appropriate afterschool experience that makes a positive impact on the Stamford community, especially in our schools and among families of students in the city of Stamford. We work with local elementary schools to identify students who need help and we provide those students with appropriate support in order to improve their chances of academic and social success.

We also strive to improve family life by reducing stress created by homework struggles. This creates extra time for positive family interaction at the end of each school day.

Book Drive

Due to social distancing requirements, CL@FPC is making a special request to help with reading practice. CL@FPC is looking for donations of two copies of age-appropriate books to maintain distance when reading together.
